The winner

RUSSIAN HERO famously never won another race in twenty seven attempts although he finished second a few times and was just touched off by a head at Leicester over two miles  in 1950. His National record  thereafter was pretty dismal as he was a first fence faller in 1950 and was unlucky to be hampered and knocked out of the 1951 National when leading at the Chair. Finally on his last ever racecourse appearance in 1952 he came down at the first fence again.
